Commercial Break: He’s best known and adored for his role as Joey Tribbiani on Friends, but did you know that Matt LeBlanc got his start in TV commercials?
Long before he tagged the phrase “How YOU doin’?”, he charmed the ladies with his puppy-dog looks in “oh-so-80’s” ads for Heinz (1987) and cherry 7Up.

I liked the video and I noticed that Matt didn’t say much during the commercial. Yet, it was still his BIG BREAK! Just the kind of commercial I need to do. LOL! I feel doing a commercial, or being an EXTRA is a good way to get started and get your foot in the door in the entertainment industry.
Reminds me of 1989 – my 2 good friends and I went to visit LA. One friend was on a mission to meet Stars. While we were on Catalina Island, Matt LaBlanc (pre-”Friends”) was seated at a bar table. My friend was convinced that this guy (Matt) was a Star. He asked Matt for autograph. Matt said, “Thanks, man. I didn’t know anyone recognized me from my work.” Of course Matt signed “Matt LaBlanc;” we cheered for him when “Friends” aired in ‘94 and we THEN knew who Matt LeBlanc was. ~ Janet
It only takes one break. Commercials to me are one of main ways to go. I have the entire collections of Friends. One of my Favorite.
It is so funny how you don’t realize these stars were even in commercials until you look back at them years after they have made it big in the industry.
