InstantCast AllStar Alert: Jim Carrey
Categories: AllStar Alerts, Theme of the Week
Starring as The Grinch Who Stole Christmas, Jim Carrey took a holiday tradition to a whole new level of funny! And that’s just one more reason why we love Jim. Whether he’s taking on slapstick comedy as Ace Ventura or finding his more somber side in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Jim Carrey never fails to impress us.
But Jim Carrey didn’t always have it so good. He battled through some tough financial times with his family, but always kept his eye on the prize: Hollywood. In fact, he once wrote himself a check for $20 million and kept it in his wallet until he earned that much (for The Cable Guy in 1996)!
Here’s some more surprising facts about Jim:
- He’s always been a performer. He used to wear tap shoes to bed just to put on a show for his parents in the middle of the night!
- He’s more introverted than you think. Jim actually said his character in Eternal Sunshine was the closest to his real personality.
- He was originally cast as “Dr. Evil” in Austin Powers, but he had to drop out of the role due to a scheduling conflict with Liar Liar.
- He’s admired by some of the greatest actors around. Even Jack Nicholson has called him the “Jack Nicholson of the next generation!”
So what’s Hollywood’s favorite funny man up to now? He’ll be playing real life con artist Stephen Jay Russell in 2009’s I Love You Phillip Morris (Ewan MacGregor plays the title role and Jim’s love interest!), and he’ll also continue on in the holiday tradition with an adaptation of A Christmas Carol. We can’t wait!

I love the fact that Jim carey saw a check for a million dollars made out to him for an acting job before he made it big. He saw it, envisioned and realized it. I try this in interviews and it gives me. a boost.
