Go from Underdog to Top Dog like Idol’s Kris Allen!
Categories: Acting Tips, Casting Directors, Theme of the Week
Last week, Kris Allen created an upset on American Idol when he beat Adam Lambert for the title. Whether you agree or disagree with the outcome, it was a shock for everyone – including Kris!
His win is great inspiration for anyone pegged as an underdog. Whether you’re a singer, actor, or model, you’ve got to have faith that you can pull through and beat the odds!
If you’re the underdog, confidence is a must-have ingredient. But competition can make even the most seasoned performer nervous. Here are a few tips to make sure your nerves don’t get the best of you:
At your next audition, forget you have an audience watching. Don’t let the other people in the room throw you off, and focus on your own performance.
Get freaked out by your competition? Then don’t watch them. Always remember that your biggest competition is yourself.
If you’re up against star names or more experienced actors, remember that you’ve earned your spot. You are at the same starting point as other more recognized talent. You never know what exactly a casting director is looking for and everyone loves to discover new talent. Go into your audition with the confidence that you have just as good a chance as anyone else.
Take advice from professionals. The way an underdog wins is by listening to the advice of people who know what they are talking about and putting that advice to good use.
Remember that everyone has a learning curve. As long as yours is pointing up, you’re on your way to stardom!

I thought Adam had the best stage performances, but weeks ago I just had a feeling that Kris was coming out of the shadows. He does have a great voice and the all American boy look and I hope he has great success in his career. Adam will do fine, if he isn’t already signed. This is an inspiration for all of us underdogs, never give up.
