Being a leader is important in the entertainment industry. It’s just one more thing that helps you stand out from the crowd of other actors with whom you’re competing. Of course, you will be judged on your talent first. However, personality does come into play.
When I hold open calls for actors and models, I can spot the leaders quickly. They’re the ones who start conversations with others before the casting begins.

Re-locating = a lot of hard work! I know from experience, having just made the leap from NYC to Denver. It is exciting, daunting, and exhilarating all at once… just like this industry! The most important thing when re-locating is to keep in touch with old contacts while making every effort to create new contacts.
Expressing yourself can be an important asset when chasing your dreams. The more passion you have toward things that are important to you, the more you will stand out. I just had the pleasure of giving a casting consultation to InstantCast member Tony. We talked for about an hour and connected on many different levels. As a casting director, I try to always find some similarities and common interests with whomever I’m speaking to.
You can always take acting classes at your local acting school, but you can do more to expand your horizons with Continuing Ed centers like The Learning Annex.
People normally think of an audition as the time to give your first impression. But as the industry changes & more casting is done online, don’t forget that a first impression may occur when you’re not face-to-face.
The only thing more nerve-wracking than going on an audition is waiting for the outcome. And sometimes getting rejected up front seems better than agonizing over that call or email. I’ve been on both sides of this.

Once you’ve got an acting job, the work has only just begun. Take a moment to celebrate, then get to work. Make certain you know who to contact at production, get a copy of the script to read in its entirety, and get basic who/what/where information on the shoot.
Movies, television, and music can definitely become addicting and some people take their obsession to a higher level and become what I like to call “crazy fans.”
