If you see casting calls out there asking for you to submit, photos and personal info, but you’ve never heard of the company before or there is no company name listed, don’t rush to hit the send button.  Before you submit Google the business that is doing the casting and check too see if they are legit.  If they are a real casting company, and have the posting on their website and other info to back it up, it’s probably okay to submit.  On the other hand, if you have no clue who this info is really going to, it might be worth skipping out on it.

If you’re submitting to someone’s Gmail, it could be totally legit, but we all know how easy it is to create a Gmail account.  Always remember to play it smart and be cautious when you are putting your personal info out to the World Wide Web.

1. Research: It’s very discouraging when you do tons of online research and submit your resume not knowing if it’ll even be seen!  That said, you must do the research to at least know what is out there.  I know several people who landed new jobs this year just from submitting on sites…like InstantCast.  So it can happen!
2. Network: Who you know can get you really far when it comes to your job search.  Utilize every contact you have, tell them what you are looking for and see if they can help you out.  Having a personal connections can at least increase your chances of getting an interview. 
3. Recruiter: There are a lot of recruiting companies out there and it is their job to try to find you work!  Meet with a recruiter and see how they can help you.  It’s always great to have a second pair of eyes out there looking for your next great opportunity.
4. Career Fairs: These are great opportunities to “wow” employers in person and meet a ton of different people in one shot. 
5. Self Promote: If you have a service to offer, put an ad on craiglist or advertise in your local paper.  When I needed to find a snowboard instructor, I searched on craigslist and found a ton of options.

Don’t behave like you are more interested in the salary then the job. Be sure to show more interest in the job then the payment. Be sure to use your words correctly. If they ask you what compensation you’re hoping for, turn it back on them “What range do you have budgeted for this position”?

Once you have that information you can negotiate. Be sure to do your research before you walk into your audition/go see/ interview, but consider the opportunity and not just the payment. Remember to end your conversation on a positive, enthusiastic note.

Try to follow these simple guidelines in your next interview and you will land the gig for sure!

The people who are most harmed by this shallowness are women, especially young adults, as so many of their role models are “perfect and thin.” The best actors, however, are the ones that are true to themselves and work from within not from the outside in. Stay healthy and remember that your talent will get you further than your looks in the long run.

 Celebrities often go under the knife to make themselves look better, engage in crazy diets, hire personal trainers, and pay to look the part. Stars like Salma Hayek, Ashlee Simpson, Joan Rivers, Meg Ryan, Lisa Rinna etc. have all had plastic surgery. The pressure to be beautiful in Hollywood is so intense that cosmetic surgery is accepted as a common procedure. Some big time celeb  like Lady Gaga, however, are anti plastic surgery.

1) Be realistic
If your New Year’s resolution or goal is to land a starring role in a film or to be represented by a top agency… that will happen when it is meant to.  You may not have control over those things and although they are great things to pursue, don’t pressure yourself by thinking of it as a “must-do for the New Year.”  Take baby steps.  Maybe your resolution is to be more proactive in finding an agent and gigs.  Another great resolution is to take more acting classes and improve your acting ability so that you land bigger roles. 
2) Remind yourself of the resolutions you make
You don’t want to just write down a list of resolutions in your journal and never look at it again.  If you do that, you are likely to forget the changes you wanted to make and then never make them!  Put the list on your refrigerator or add daily reminders into your phone. Place it somewhere so you don’t forget about it.   
3) Don’t just say it, do it: Action is louder than words!
There’s nothing that annoys me more than people who are “sayers” and not “do-ers.”  If your resolution was to lose weight for the new year- then do it!  Go to the gym, eat healthier, plan ahead, and commit.  You can’t make the commitment to your goals then you have no reason to complain.  You can do anything you set your mind to, so if you make realistic resolutions, and you carry that list around as a reminder, there is no reason you can’t accomplish everything you want to for 2011!

3. Practice Makes Perfect!  Think of your audition as another excuse to practice.  The more comfortable you become with the audition process the better chances you have of landing your dream role.

We are planning on lining up with the crowds this Saturday at the New York City area auditions at Kohls in Linden, New Jersey!  Nervous, excited, and determined, we are both looking to snag the limelight and the attention of one Ms. Oprah Winfrey.  As casting experts we want to share with you our steps to a successful audition:

1. Details - Make sure you plan ahead!  Know where the audition is located, when you need to arrive, and how you are going to travel. Isabelle and I have been busy checking train schedules and calling taxi companies to ensure that there are no glitches in our trip.  Also, make sure you bring necessities with you to large auditions.  Unsure of the conditions and wait time, we are gathering snacks, water, and magazines to keep us hydrated and entertained while in for the long haul.

2. Preparation – Practice what you are going to present to casting directors!  Put together a packet with your headshot and resume that can be easily distributed at an audition.  Also, write out notes in regards to what you want to tell casting directors about yourself. Since this audition is to host your OWN talk show, Isabelle and I are going in with ideas on what type of show we want to work on.  Going in organized and prepared will leave you feeling confident…a trait all casting directors are looking for!

3. Positive Attitude – Walk into that audition knowing you have what it takes!  Although we are both nervous about Saturday’s audition, we know we will never get anywhere without trying.  We believe that we could be exactly what casting directors are looking for.  Audition with an upbeat and motivated attitude!  Positivity goes a long way in this industry!
