Anyone can just email or post their resume and headshot for a role.  And that may be enough to get a phone call.  However, if you’re able to write a note when you post your info or send an email for a casting, this could definitely give you an opportunity to distinguish yourself from the rest.

I’m currently casting a hidden camera game show and looking for people who want to prank their friends on TV.  A lot of actors have applied for this, but the first ones I call are the ones who write and extra note that stands out.  A handful of the actors wrote notes such as “This is right up my alley.  I love pranks!  Please call me.”  And some of them wrote notes such as “I have the perfect person in mind to prank.  She is so gullible.  Please consider me!”  It may not seem like they did that much to stand out, but their enthusiasm in the submission was enough for me to want to make them a priority.

When I call the actors I tell them that I’m calling them because it is clear to me that they are the ones who made that extra effort.  So, now they know to keep doing that for roles in the future.  A little effort and enthusiasm could go a long way!

Everyone came out of the wood work when they found out I was casting for the hit Bravo show starring none other than Patti Stanger! Everyone wanted to audition and they sure did…even InstantCast Editor Isabelle! Bringing in our friends and family was encouraged by producers and Patti Stanger herself: they wanted a variety of people of all ages from all walks of life.

One of my friends applied, auditioned, and actually got picked to be on the master date featured on the premiere episode this season. The bug really bit him hard and now he wants to pursue a career in acting in commercials and such. I am even giving him some free acting advice and told him to join InstantCast to get the latest and greatest postings and social networking with people with similar interests.

So if you’re thinking about a career change and/or a side job, try to get on reality TV! Try it out once and see if you like it because you can’t commit without trying it first! Happy Hunting.

They obviously have a great relationship and love to work together and make amazing films.  I’ve also met some of my best friends through jobs and they have lead me to plenty of other work.

My transitions from MTV2 to Nickelodeon to MTV’s TRL is due to more than just my hard work.  I built strong relationships therefore my connections were willing to go out of their way to find me work.  Strive to be open and respectful with your supervisor as it will work in your favor in the end.  I know that it is a rarity to “like your boss” but if you can manage to see eye to eye and build a relationship, it can do wonders for your future.
