Kellan Lutz was a struggling actor until he landed his Twilight role: Before he had only appeared on an eight-episode arc in Lisa Kudrow’s short-lived 2005 HBO sitcom The Comeback.  Ashely Greene was an apiring model from Jacksonville, Forida, who was told she wouldn’t get anywhere because of her short 5′4” stature. Cam Gigandet got his Hollywood break playing a bad boy on the popular teen drama The O.C.

It kicked off last week with a screening of a film with tons of Oscar buzz called Precious. I had the privilege of listening to a couple of producers speak about the film before the screening: they said throughout the filming they heard a lot of “No’s.” People never thought they should be making a movie based on the story of an obese African American girl from the Harlem. In the long run, all those negative people were wrong. With Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry as an executive producers, this film has only great things coming ahead.

I also had the privilege of meeting two other young screenwriters (brothers) who had a film featured in the festival. This was their first film: the brothers had promised their dying father that they would make a film based on his life. They also made a huge promise to him before he died and told him they would get Ed Harris to play his role! Similar to Precious, no one felt they could ever do it. These film novices from Arizona made it happen! And Ed Harris is indeed their leading actor!

I found both of these stories inspiring and wanted to share them with you. Always remember that where there’s a will there’s a way. If you put your heart into and believe in yourself and your work, you can gain big time success!
