Did you know that tons of today’s hottest stars got their start on sitcoms?

Before he was saving Darfur and starring as ER’s hottest hunk, Oscar-winner George Clooney started his acting life on TV. Clooney isn’t the only Oscar-winner to start small: Tom Hanks, Helen Hunt and Hilary Swank all had TV experience before making it big on film.

Here are two TV shows I bet you never knew George Clooney starred on:

1. The Facts of Life: He played George Burnett, the contractor hired by Mrs. Garrett and the girls to help them rebuild Edna’s Edibles after it burnt down. After the store re-opened as a novelty shop, George stayed on to be the “hunky male presence” on the show.

2. Roseanne: He played the short-lived role of the Booker, the foreman at the factory where Roseanne and her sister Jackie worked.
