This shockingly skinny still captures Christian Bale’s intense physical preparation for filming The Fighter, in which he plays a boxer who becomes addicted to drugs–yikes!

Bale, who previously lost over 30% of his body weight for a role in The Machinist, is a method actor, part of the school of thought that believes an actor should try to think and feel like the character he or she is playing.

Famous method actors include Dustin Hoffman, Daniel Day-Lewis, and Marlon Brando. Let’s hope he’ll gain the weight back in time for the next Batman movie!

Over 2,000 auditioners in Boston fought for their turn to land a role in the next big feature film The Fighter, starring Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale. The film is a drama about boxer “Irish” Micky Ward’s unlikely road to the world light welterweight title. Casting directors from Boston Casting were looking for extras for gym scenes and ringside crowds. Apply to “The Fighter” casting call now!

One hopeful talent arrived in a T-shirt with his hands taped up, like a boxer. An onlooker reports that some auditioners ”blurted out their qualifications – ‘I’m not a boxer, but I was a hockey fighter,’ said one young man” – in their fleeting moment of face time.

Christian Bale and Mark Wahlberg couldn’t be hotter in Hollywood right now!

Bale’s Terminator Salvation hits theaters this week, and Wahlberg will be appearing in Peter Jackson’s high-profile adaptation of The Lovely Bones.

And now they’re both starring in The Fighter, a film based on real-life boxer Micky Ward and his climb to fame and worldwide acclaim.

Mark Wahlberg is set to star as Mickey, while Christian Bale will be playing his half-brother/trainer and drug addict Dickie Eklund.
