Hear How Reality TV Has Turned the Jersey Shore Cast from Everyday Guidos into Stars:

When it comes to reality TV, there’s is one show right now that is hogging the spotlight: MTV’s Jersey Shore. These characters are so ridiculous that they are grabbing attention from above and beyond MTV’s viewer demographic. The show is outraging New Jersey veterans and Italian American groups and this publicity is only increasing the amount of viewers! And of course the character “Snookie” getting punched in the face by a guy at a bar caused a big stir as well… As an Italian American girl who happens to be from New Jersey, I am by no means offended and I think it is obvious that this show was cast to make a big splash.

MTV casting directors looked for very specific types of people who fit the New Jersey Shore Guido stereotype for the club scene in Seaside, but they certainly do not represent the majority of Shore residents and visitors.

People love to make fun of these characters and I often see their tag-lines such as “creepin” and “GTL-ing” being used as on Facebook and Twitter. If you haven’t seen Jersey Shore yet, you should check it out so at least you can form your own opinion on this controversial reality TV show…and realize that regualr people CAN become overnight stars thanks to reality TV!

MTV’s Jersey Shore Ignites Anger, Drama, and Scandal: Has Reality TV Gone Too Far?

The MTV network that brought us The Real World in 1992, before reality TV was a developed concept, is still shocking viewers with the new reality TV show Jersey Shore. The show, based on the premise of The Real World, places 8 Italian American “guidos” and “guidettes” from the Northeast in a house on the Jersey Shore for the summer. Having seen the show, I can attest to the fact that it is at times…shocking.

Tanned, buffed, spiked, gelled…you name it, these kids are of a particular type. The show has caused quite an uprising in the Italian-American community, which claims that these 8 sweet/spicy sausage-eating, booze-guzzling, fake-tanned young adults are not a fair representation of what it means to be an “Italian-American” aka guido/guidette.

MTV has received irate emails, phone calls, and death threats over the Jersey Shore premiere. The MTV building in Times Square is also a target of hate and they are in the process of hiring more security in bodyguards. The widespread discontent is showing up in ad ratings too. Ad supporters like Dominos Pizza have pulled out of advertising sponsorship as they do not wish to be affiliated with such a show.

InstantCast Editor Isabelle Watches NYC Prep Finale with NYC Prep’s… Jessie!

Last night I had the pleasure of attending an NYC Prep Season Finale viewing party in downtown NYC.

The guest of honor was none other than Jessie…the blonde, thick-skinned, outspoken teen who could (and will?) at any moment take over Manhattan with the sweep of her well-manicured, bejeweled hand. I was a bit uneasy to have the 18 year-old reality TV starlet lurk behind me while I watched her unravel on screen.

So what was she like in-person? The same as on the show! It is reality TV, after all…but really she was 100% passionate about her charity, Operation Smile, open about her love for fashion & bling, and she had an overwhelming air of confidence about her that definitely translates to her on-screen character.

What’s next for J? She’s off to FIT in the fall to study fashion. When I asked Jessie if Bravo was doing another season she threw her hands in the air and said “I don’t know…” with a sneaky lift of her perfectly-groomed eyebrows …guess we’ll just have to sit back & wait to find out!

OMG! Ryan Seacrest and Lindsay Lohan Creating a Reality Show?!

Ryan says that the show will help out people who are down on their luck and allow them to compete for a $1 million dollar prize! Everything’s still very much on the DL, but we hear that Lindsay plans to serve on a panel of judges and hopes that she’ll be able to help people in the same way that Extreme Home Makeover does. How sweet is that?

Besides his excellent hosting gig on American Idol, Ryan is no stranger to working behind the camera–he’s a producer on both Keeping Up with the Kardashians and It’s Complicated with Denise Richards. Billy Garcia’s Top 3 Tips for Reality TV Wannabes

As I was chatting with Billy Garcia, cast member of Survivor: Cook Island and superstar self-promoter, he singled out these three must-have tips for reality TV wannabes like YOU:

1. Pick a show that goes after the target audience that’s best for you/your personality. It may sound obvious, but don’t audition for The Amazing Race if you’re not ready to run around!

2. Once you decide on the show that’s best for you – get on it! Say whatever you need to say, stick to specific details about yourself, and avoid general phrases and cliches during the audition process. Remember, single out what makes you unique.

3. Once you’re on the show, don’t worry about winning. That’s not what it’s about. You need viewers to like you, and you need to appeal to the audience watching you. Once the show has wrapped, you will be your own self-promoter. You need to go after promoters, make industry contacts, and know about the latests events, shows, movies, and projects to get involved in.

“I’m a Dominican-American-heavy-metal-guitar-playing-pro-wrestling-former marine,” says past Survivor: Cook Island cast member, Billy Garcia.

Whoa I think… that pretty much sums him up! I recently met Billy at Robert Galinsky’s New York Reality TV School where he introduced himself to me with this one sentence.

He tells me that when auditioning for any reality TV show, you need to sum up your life & personality in one, run-on sentence. You need to include specifics about your background and personality because that’s what casting directors will remember. Think about what makes you different than everyone else auditioning and make sure you get that out within the first 30 seconds of your audition. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Robert Galinsky, founder of the New York Reality TV School, had a pow wow with American Idol’s Randy Jackson on Saturday at the Jacob Javitz Center in New York City.

Galinsky was on site perusing the “Randy Jackson Eyewear” line from Zyloware and considering some new frames (he currently wears Randy Jackson exclusively).

Randy and Galinsky talked a little reality TV school technique, perused the frames from Randy’s 1000 and 3000 series and also riffed on mutual friend Nile Rodgers “Three Dot Dash” International Teen Peace Project.

“It was a very fruitful and brief encounter with one of reality TV’s biggest and smartest stars. We gained an appreciation for one another and I was given an up close dose of Randy’s incredible eyewear- from the man himself.” said Galinsky.
