Tyra has been a model for almost 20 years…gracing the covers of magazines like Elle, GQ, People, Maxim, and Victoria’s Secret! But it was the famous 1997 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition cover that catapulted Tyra into Cover Model Stardom!Tyra was the first solo black woman on the cover of Sports Illustrated’s swimsuit issue! In 2007 Tyra re-created the same cover for the 10th anniversary of the magazine!  Years later she still looks…unforgettable!

Remember last month when thousands of Top Model hopefuls rioted in the streets? Thankfully, the second New York City open call went much more smoothly this past Saturday.

Of course, reality TV is just as harsh – maybe even harsher – as the real world of modeling. The New York Times reported that around 1200 model wannabes were shuffled in and out of the auditions quickly, limiting the time each contestant had to present herself. (And no, Tyra Banks didn’t make an appearance.)

After model pandemonium took over New York City at a casting call Saturday for “America’s Next Top Model,” Tyra Banks is reacting to the incident:

“To all the ‘Top Model’ hopefuls who were affected by the New York casting, we are doing everything we can to make sure that ALL the girls who weren’t seen, get an opportunity to audition – we’ll update you on our plans very soon. It is so important to me to redefine beauty, and make sure that everyone gets a fair chance to pursue their dream. I am beyond excited for Cycle 13; for the first time ever, young women 5′7″ and under have a shot at becoming America’s Next Top Model! I encourage each girl to come out ready to rock the runway and show off their fiercest pose. I’m rooting for all of you!”
